Student School Board Representative

Student school board representatives serve as non-voting members who are advisors to, and meet and work with, the school board and administration in the formation and evaluation of policy and regulations in the operation of our school system. Student representatives attend and participate at all open meetings of the school board, including work sessions.  Student school board representatives provide an important communication link with the student body, and by participation, obtain practical governmental experience.
 
Every spring, this position is open to Owatonna High School and ALC sophomores. Representatives of the school board and administration will review the applications, conduct interviews, and select the student representative by May.

Next application deadline: 
Sophomores during the 2023-2024 school year should submit their application no later than March 15, 2024. By May 2024 a new student representative will be chosen to serve during their junior and senior years.

Scholarship for Student School Board Representatives

Each spring, the Minnesota School Boards Association awards $3,000 scholarships to two Minnesota students who have served on the school board as student representatives. For more information, click here
