Digital Tools

Owatonna Public Schools uses a variety of digital tools to support student learning. Technology vendors and software is utilized to support work as we help all students develop the skills necessary to succeed in an ever-changing world. 

We have an inventory of our curriculum, testing, productivity and assessment digital tools posted here. This list is maintained and communicated annually to all families prior to the start of the school year.

Google Workspace & Additional Services

At Owatonna Public Schools, we use Google Workspace for Education, and we provide and manage a Google Workspace for Education account for your child. Google Workspace for Education is a set of education productivity tools from Google including Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Classroom as well as additional Google services such as Google Maps, Google Translate, Google Earth & YouTube used by tens of millions of students and teachers around the world. 

At Owatonna Public Schools, students will use their Google Workspace for Education accounts to complete assignments, communicate with their teachers, sign into their Chromebooks, and learn 21st century digital citizenship skills.

Google provides information about the information it collects, as well as how it uses and discloses the information it collects from G Suite for Education accounts in its G Suite for Education Privacy Notice. By signing off on the Acceptable Use Form and agreeing to Internet, Technology, and Personal Electronic Communication Device Acceptable Use and Safety Policy (Policy 524). you agree to allow your child(ren)  to continue using these services as part of their daily educational experience.

GoGuardian/LanSchool

To help keep your child safer and more focused online, Owatonna Public Schools has adopted online services provided by GoGuardian and/or LANSchool. Over 14,000 other schools use GoGuardian and/or LANSchool to protect 25 million students across the world.

We have chosen GoGuardian and/or LANSchool services to: 

  • Help protect students against harmful and inappropriate online material.
  • Help students stay more focused when learning online.
  • Help assess students’ progress towards class assignments.
  • Facilitate communication between teachers and students during class time.

We will work with students to help teach them digital responsibility and safety.  Additionally, we will train teachers about how & when to operate GoGuardian and about our policies and procedures to help protect student privacy. 

We ask that students use their school-managed accounts and devices for educational purposes within the boundaries of Owatonna Public Schools Internet, Technology, and Personal Electronic Communication Device Acceptable Use and Safety Policy (Policy 524).

When a student is off campus, parents are responsible for supervising internet access and usage. We encourage you to discuss rules for appropriate internet usage with your child, and reinforce lessons of digital citizenship and safety with him or her.
