1:1 Technology

Beginning in 2018, Owatonna Public Schools implemented G Suite for Education to promote collaboration among teachers, students and staff, to increase efficiency and, ultimately, to provide a foundation for a 21st-century curriculum that’s increasingly enhanced by technology.

Owatonna Public Schools also invested in iPads & Google Chromebooks, which are shared across all grades and classrooms every day. With teachers utilizing more technology in the classroom to facilitate student learning and personalize instruction, and as students and teachers increasingly collaborate, the decision to move to a 1:1 technology device ratio for all Owatonna Public Schools students ensures equal access to learning tools for all.

Device Types:

Students in kindergarten and first grade will be issued a district-owned iPad.  These iPads will be assigned to each student and will remain in the classroom unless needed in a hybrid or distance learning environment.

Students in grades 2-5 will be issued a district-owned Chromebook.  These devices will be assigned to each student and will remain in the classroom unless needed in a hybrid or distance learning environment.

Students in grades 6-12 will be issued a district-owned Chromebook. These devices will be assigned to each student and are permitted to travel with them to and from school daily.

Distribution:

Dates and times of device distribution will be determined by individual schools.  Each Chromebook/iPad and the student to whom it was assigned will be recorded in the district’s inventory system.

Families with students in grades 6-12 and all Owatonna Online families must complete and sign the Technology Device Loan Agreement & Insurance form.
