Owatonna Public Schools Nutrition Services is a proud participant in the pilot cohort for Harvest of the Month in Minnesota! 

Minnesota Harvest of the Month is a campaign that focuses on supporting locally grown products and the farms that harvest and produce them. Our goal is to encourage students to make healthy food choices by showcasing locally grown foods on our menus and integrating nutrition education into the classroom. Each month our schools will showcase one seasonal, Minnesota-grown food item. Students will have the opportunity to try these foods and learn more about the farms that cultivated them. 

Why Harvest of the Month? 
Research shows the many benefits of the Harvest of the Month campaign: 
  • Improves students willingness to try new fruits and vegetables 
  • Increases the amount of fruits and vegetables students eat 
  • Supports healthy food choices and students' relationship with food 
  • Reduces food waste 
  • Grows school meal participation 
  • Supports Minnesota farmers and the local economy

Program Support and Funding 
The Minnesota Harvest of the Month Pilot Program is supported by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) and the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). Funding for this program comes from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
