Our District has several different opportunities for substituting
All substitute teachers must have a current MN teaching license. A teacher with a standard license may substitute in any Pre K-12 assignment. A limited short-call substitute teaching license may be requested by the district for an individual if there is a shortage of qualified substitute teachers. The individual must have a four year degree and participate in a short-call substitute training session in order to meet district qualifications. The limited license is issued by the MN Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELBS) and is valid for two years.
Support Staff Substitutes:
Support Staff provide classroom assistance to teachers. No licensure is required to substitute in these positions, just the desire to work with children in an educational setting.
Owatonna School District uses a platform called PDExpress to encompass professional development needed for renewal of an educational license with MN Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB). To access PDExpress, you must set up a Guest account by going to: http://pdexpress.owatonna.k12.mn.us/ and click on "Request a Guest ID?
Once your license renewal submission has been approved by the CEU Committee through PDExpress, your information will be uploaded to PELSB.
Our CEU Committee is broken down by first initial of last name. The CEU Committee Members are available to answer any of your licensing questions. For general questions, please contact Cheryl Summer at: email@example.com or 444-8612.
